Athletic Madrid attempt to hijack Liverpool deal for defender

Despite reports that Liverpool are on the verge of signing Uruguayan center-back Sebastian Coates, rumours are abound that Athletico Madrid have made an 11th hour bid for the highly rated centre- back.

Suggestions are that the the Madrid side have made a bid of €8m for the 20 year-old, €1m more than the reds’ offer.

Only time will tell if this rumour is anything but that so watch this space for more news.

It is well know that several other European clubs have been chasing Coates so it will be a major coup for Liverpool and Kenny Dalglish if he can lure the youngster to Anfield.
